Background and Objective

JEOL is driving continuous and sustainable growth by implementing initiatives to accelerate business expansion as outlined in Triangle Plan 2022, its new midterm business plan. TEM systems, JEOL's flagship product, are designed to observe materials at atomic resolution and examine their static structure. IDES's unique technology will upgrade these TEM systems to "ultrafast time resolved TEMs" capable of capturing still and dynamic images in nano seconds (one billionth (10^-9) of a second) to femtoseconds (one quadrillionth (10^-15) of a second) and recording them with nanometer-scale spatial resolution. These innovative systems can be used to explore dynamic and quantum phenomena beyond the reach of conventional TEM. In the future, the system can also be upgraded to support applications in life sciences such as studies of protein movement.

IDES also offers unique technologies related to high speed electrostatic deflection and compressive sensing. These technologies can be integrated into TEM as accessories to provide minimum damage, high throughput TEM image acquisition in an order of micro second time resolution.

Furthermore, IDES's current technologies and its future technologies that are under development will make it possible to upgrade cryo-tomography, scanning and scanning transmission imaging technologies.
